Our Philosophy

Resource. Empower. Synergy. Innovation.

Australia’s construction industry is one of the country’s most important economic sectors, contributing 7.0% of GDP and employing around 1.3 million people in 2023–24. At the same time, it remains highly fragmented, with small businesses accounting for 62% of construction employment and 51% of construction value added.

RESI exists to bring structure, clarity and coordination to this essential sector. We stand at the intersection of data, community, standards, education and innovation — not merely as an institute, but as a platform designed to strengthen the foundations of residential development across Australia.

As the industry evolves, RESI recognises the growing importance of digital capability. From construction data literacy to practical understanding of emerging applications of AI in construction, we support a more informed, future-ready sector through knowledge, education and professional exchange.

Our Mission

Empowering residential development through intelligence, education and innovation.

The Australian Residential Construction Institute (RESI) was established to support a sector that is economically significant, yet operationally complex. In a market shaped by independent operators, specialist trades and subcontracting networks, access to reliable insight, shared standards and practical learning is essential to better decision-making and better delivery. The economic importance and operating structure of Australia’s construction sector are reflected in official ABS data.

RESI provides the connective infrastructure that is often missing. Through market intelligence, professional networking, industry education and evidence-based advocacy, we help emerging developers, builders and industry participants build capability, improve alignment and navigate complexity with greater confidence.

We also believe the future of the sector depends on continuous learning in modern methods of delivery. This includes stronger understanding of digital tools, deeper capability in data-led decision-making, and practical learning around AI in construction, automation and next-generation industry systems.

Why RESI Matters Now

Australia’s residential development environment is under growing pressure to deliver better outcomes with greater efficiency, consistency and accountability. Yet many participants still operate in a fragmented landscape, where information is uneven, standards are inconsistent, and collaboration is often reactive rather than structured.

RESI acts as a stabilising framework — turning fragmented knowledge into shared intelligence, isolated activity into professional connection, and emerging ideas into practical industry capability. By supporting education, research and collaboration, we help create a sector that is better informed, better connected and better prepared for change.

What RESI Stands For

Resource

We provide precision-driven market intelligence, technical research and structured knowledge to support better decision-making across the residential construction ecosystem. Our role is to transform scattered information into practical industry insight.

Empower

We equip professionals with evidence-based insight, educational content and capability-building resources that reduce uncertainty, strengthen project thinking and support long-term resilience in a changing market.

Synergy

We foster structured collaboration between developers, builders, consultants, communities and public stakeholders. By encouraging better alignment between policy, practice and delivery, we help reduce friction across the sector.

Innovation

We advocate for more modern, integrated approaches to residential development. From digital workflows and better use of data to practical understanding of AI in construction and emerging industry systems, we promote forward-looking capability that supports sustainable growth.
